Eddie Morris

Express Yourself

Introduction: I’m Eddie Morris; I am freshmen here at Eastern Kentucky. I am a computer science major and I came here because I was reward a scholarship to come play football here. I was kind of nervous about this class because it was my first college English class. My first thought about this class was that I thought we were going to be writing a lot of long papers. I a lot thought we would be doing a lot of reading which I’m not really a fan of doing.  English was never my strong suit in high school. I feared this class would give me a hard time but it didn’t and still learned a lot.

Government: In my opinion an ideal government is a government that fairly governs the people without totally ruling the people. In a government the citizens play a major role in how things are handle. Citizens are very vital to any country because without the citizens there wouldn’t be necessarily anything to govern. So in a government like the United States the citizen’s role is to vote for candidates and pay taxes. In some countries a citizen doesn’t even have a role or say so in what goes on. Yet I don’t really have a role now I will soon now that I’m of age. That’s what I see as an ideal government.
Wealth & Poverty: I honestly don’t think the gap between the rich and poor should be closed. People should get the money that they earn. Nothing is given in this life and if people want to be wealthy they should work for it. Most people who are rich now it didn’t come easy for them somebody had to get up and go get it. I would say I handle money wisely; I like to save money I get. If I spend money it’s usually something I need even though I often do buy things I want. I don’t necessarily help the poor I may help a random person out who needs some money every now and then. My aspirations for money are only to have enough to live comfortable. I don’t need too much money but I don’t want to be poor either.
Justice: In my words I would say that justice is when everyone is treated fairly and disciplined according to the law. Yes there are cases of injustice, the perfect example is stoning like we talked about in class. In this situation I would just go to the United Nations and let them handle that injustice. I think unjust laws should be broken, there are a lot of things that so many of us wouldn’t be able to do. If it wasn’t for Martin Luther King Jr. breaking unjust laws African Americans wouldn’t have many of the rights we have today. I don’t play a role in fighting injustice; I haven’t found anything to fight for.
Ethics and Moral: Ethical and moral behavior is to know the right and wrong thing and doing them. The stoning of Soraya was very unethical. On that day justice was not served because she lost her life because of someone else was being selfish. We can have ethics and morals without religion because it’s all about doing the right thing. Doing the right thing should be fulfilling but happiness isn’t tied into ethics and morals. To be happy can mean a lot of things for a lot of different people now days. To be happy you just have to enjoy what you’re doing it doesn’t take much. I would say I am very happy compared to the readings. A lot people have it hard now a days and one of the fortunate ones. Only thing that will keep me happy is by simply living life the right and best way I know how.
Individual: An individual is someone who is independent and can do things on their own. They are very important to society because those who are individuals tend to be leaders. Which gives them huge responsibilities but for the most part an individual is responsible for taking voting or fighting for their country. I see myself as an individual because I’m not afraid to think for myself. The individual are the ones that stand out, though the group can also. I wouldn’t say either are more important to listen to. An individual can be wrong with no to correct unlike in a group. An entire group can be wrong as well though too but there can also be that one individual who is right within that group. No I don’t think it is possible because if that were to happen everyone in society would be selfish if that’s how they thought. The characteristics of an individual are that they are independent and thinks for their selves. Society molds individuals by bringing them up to be leaders of the country. We conform because we all stick together as a one nation. I’m apart of society because I’m a U.S. citizen and will soon have a say in things about this country.

In this class I improved personally in a few ways. I’ve become much better at analyzing pictures and writings. Also with that my writing skills have improved so much. Being able to put my own thoughts and opinions on paper was a problem for me and now I’ve improved so much. I can’t say there is anything that I didn’t like about the class. Your change in tactics on writing our notes helped me to understand the readings more. You’re great teacher and I can definitely say you know the material. The only thing I would of changed is that we were more involved in the discussion. The way we all had our own section to read made us all pay attention and pull something out from the reading. Over all I really enjoyed some of the readings but mostly I enjoyed the class.

  1. You had a lot of good ideas and you tied them together good. All of your pictures represented each section as well.
